Light of the World
“I am the Light of the World. He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
As Jesus spoke these words, He was again declaring his deity, for the scripture declares: “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1John 1:5).
Just as the great sculptor Michelangelo declared he was not creating, but merely revealing what lay hidden within the stone, so the Light of Christ reveals the spiritual potential of man. His light discloses what would otherwise be hidden forever, obscured by the darkness of sin.
“For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (11 Cor. 4:6).
His light reveals the pathway we are to take in life. We are also to reflect His light, becoming a light for others. We must borrow a ray from the Son of Righteousness in order to reflect His radiance in a dark world.
