Light of Heaven
In the breathtaking description of heaven found in the 21st chapter of Revelation, human speech is inadequate to describe the splendor of The New Jerusalem. It is compared to the most precious and colorful jewels known to man. The most striking statement is found in verses 22-23: “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it, for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
Jesus had said “I am the Light of the World. He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). In 1 John 1:5 we read “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” As Jesus is the Light of the World, He is also to be the Light of Heaven.
