And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus...was baptized of John in the Jordan, and straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him, and there came a voice from heaven saying, "Thou art my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Mark 1:9-11).
This window marks the moment when Jesus began His public ministry. Though He was sinless, Jesus set the example of being baptized as a sign of repentance from sin. The dove is a symbol of the Hole Spirit's presence, sent to empower Jesus for His ministry. The scene reminds us that we are also called to be children of God, made in the likeness of Jesus: "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be , but we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2).
This window was given in memory of Preston Miller, Harold Beeson and Rev. Jasper Nelson.
